Of the many, Crepe myrtles are one of the most colorful reasons why I love Navasota. There could be a "Navasota Crepe Myrtle Tour." In the summer, when there is a drought and nothing can grow, they still bloom and prosper and beautify our town like it's springtime. Pink, watermelon, lilac and white, and variations of these make living here a visual joy. Many of them were planted by our earliest pioneers, and they have been here a long time. I have seen some clusters that were five and six feet in diameter, growing in abandoned homelots where the houses are long since returned to Nature. One of the few things we have added that will be here long after we are gone.
