Blues S U R P R I S E S ! (of the pleasant kind)

As can be expected, every year the BluesFest brings some unexpected musical treasures. I guess we can call these the annual "Cushie" awards.

Most Amazing Transformation into a solid blues performer:

Goes to.... Misslette The Singing Cowgirl. Actually, she has had it all the time. Shame on her for not showing off sooner.

Most Unforgetable Moment:

Goes to Texas Johnny Brown, when he deftly picked as he sauntered and smiled amongst his adoring fans, engaging with them in something beyond entertainment.

Most Impressive New Band Member:

Goes to Michael Gaskin, the AWESOME sax player who now makes Tubie's Touchtones an unstoppable force. His playing so beautifully weaves in with Tubie and Les that it is hard to believe they have not been working together for years.

a simple jam session on Friday nights...

You never know what your wants and whims might lead to, and that is probably a good thing.

We began to jam months ago with no more agenda than to have a good time and let there be music, every week, in Navasota. These pictures convey some of the fun... and show some folks that will be featured artists on August 11th.

This jam session at Blues Alley is the incubator that is about to hatch a big egg downtown... called the Blues Capital Revue!

We have been so fortunate to see and hear great musicians right here in Navasota, in the past few months, and the images they create have been almost as memorable. True, some are a little "autistic" since I don't use a flash, but I'd rather capture the lighting and colors... sometimes thatsacrifices sharpness... But l@@k at what has been going on here! Look! And I got to see and hear every freaking bit of it, and I still can't believe it!
