the process...

This would be a good time to watch the creation process, as an idea grows into a monument...
First, a tin model inspires a commission...
Drawings had to be made to insure proper engineering...
The "RECEIVER!" turns out to be a masterwork in itself...
The "receiver" was made months before and set before the concrete was poured for the foundation...
So now we have a base! NEXT: Cover it with granite
Construction called for a plasma cutter, a crane, and welders with strong backs. Vastine Hughes of Hughes Fabrication & Welding led the team that constructed Nessie.
It took a veritable team of welders and steel workers to cut, grind and assemble the sculpture.
The whole sculpture was sandblasted, all except the stainless portion, to encourage the rusting process.
after drawings, pourings, sculptings and forgings, implementing various steels, concrete, granite and acid, GESAMTKUNSTWERK is now truly the synthesis of all the arts! The finishing stage took over a month, including sandblasting, grinding, applying the patina, and attaching aluminum bells so that the sculpture becomes a musical instrument. Estimated fabrication and installation costs: $17,000.00
