A Banner Year for the Bluebonnets
It always seems to happen... after a bad drought, when you think the land has been damaged beyond repair... the wildflowers pop up in the spring and have a big time soaking up all that rain we could not get when we needed it.
Huisache trees are pretty useless, thorny shrubs, but they make an amazing appearance for a few weeks every so often.
A rare year, everything bloomed early, and the redbuds, huisache and bluebonnets are out at the same time. The lupinus subcarnosus (bluebonnets without the white caps) are especially proliferous in Washington County. HWY 105, between Montgomery and Brenham will be putting on quite a show for a couple of weeks.
